Lets get this out of the way right off the snap- I ashamedly admit that I watched the finals of Idol last night. Its not something I PLANNED on doing, much less admitting to. Nonetheless it happened. Please don't hold me accountable for my actions. Maybe it was the NyQuill. Maybe it was the Zima. Regardless, was it just me or did David Cook make a blatant lip sync at the end of his performance?
Let me preface this by saying I am a FAN of David Cook. His rendition of Elanor Rigby early in the season in my humble opinion was one of the best Idol performances ever. I have been pulling for him all along except for one small factor... that smile on Syesha Mercado. WOW. Talk about an internal conflict. American Rocker or Hot Chick? Who do you cheer for at that point- I say "Chick."
Lets get back on track here. So I'm enjoying my Zima- er "whiskey"- watching David Cook perform U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Rockin out with my dog we will refer to as "The Hutt Man." Then- at the end of the song in the "scoop note" (that is what I call it- musicians may call it something quite different), did just see the mic drop a solid second before the note ended? Granted sometimes sound and images get out of sync, but it was in perfect sync the whole song. DVR time... yep it dropped but he was still "singing." Take a look at the last 20 seconds of this video (or any other video of the David Cook U2 performance) and form your own opinion- the action starts around 2:05:
So I turn on the "morning" news (and I use the term "morning" loosely- big ups Jason Feinberg and the More crew) to see the fallout from the newest American Idol scandal... nothing. Wait. Here we go. "David Cook used a teleprompter"... that's it? Nothing mentioning the blatant lip syncing?
I will be honest- the teleprompter did not bother me. These guys have been put through the ringer for the last several months; lets give them a break and award them a teleprompter on their last night. Especially when they are singing three new songs- one of which nobody knows. But why no mention of the lip sync. I was disillusioned and thought it was time to consult the opionions of the loyal readers of the Dr Blog Network.
Let me be the first (probably not the first, but maybe the hundred-thousandth) to congratulate David Cook on his American Idol victory. I believe you deserved it. Blame it on a lapel mic... blame it on the Department of Homeland Security... hell blame it on the Zima. Whether the song was lip synced or not- it was still Cook singing which is what... eight tenths of the battle?

I saw that too. It looked way worse on HDTV. There were about 3-4 times throughout the show when you could see they were both lip syncing. Glad someone finally pointed it out. First time to your site- keep up the good work.
